This is for those who say The Simpsons is no longer a good medium for political satire!! :) Another interesting point is that The Simpsons aired this episode 2 days before the USA Midterm Elections, where potentially the Republican party could lose control of the House and the Senate, both of which they now lead. There have been many political statements in the past on The Simpsons, but it's pretty crazy to see one that is this obvious and placed at a particularly important time just before people vote this week.
I wrote an essay last term for my History and Film class about how comedy is a very strong method for satire and for provoking discussion and change. It's interesting to see how clear of a statement the writers of The Simpsons are making here.
